Victor records

10

This poster was created by Takabatake Kashō (1888–1966) for the Victor Talking Machine Co. in 1930. It features a graceful woman in a kimono holding a record close to her face, with a gentle smile and a soft, elegant pose. The disc she holds contains “Solveig’s Song,” which was released by Victor in 1929. Kashō’s delicate brushwork and use of warm tones highlight his signature bijin-ga (beautiful woman) style, blending traditional Japanese aesthetics with modern sensibilities of the early Shōwa period.  Overall, the poster captures the harmony between tradition and modernity, using the allure of feminine beauty to celebrate the elegance of recorded music in a new technological age.
